A rare Sunday fixture for the Kings this week as we ventured to Smith Partners Stadium (Modbury Jets ground) to play the high flying Adelaide United Youth. The pressure was on Mark Brazzale and his men as anything other than a win will make it more and more difficult to get out of relegation zone.

A quiet start to the game saw 2 young sides battle it out in the middle of the park with some hard challenges flying in. 20mins in, AUFC hit a long range effort, leaving Nick Munro watching it crash into the crossbar! Heart in mouth stuff! Defenders Martinello and Brazzale were proving to be rocks in the back line, holding strong against the youth of Adelaide United. Midfielders/ Captains Klimek and Visconte were showing their ferocity and desire to win, getting stuck into hard, tough challenges.

Young forward & crowd favourite Patty Caraccia found himself in a footrace with the keeper after great pressure, beating him to the ball and going around. Unfortunately it sent him wide and his goal bound effort was cleared from the scrambling defence. Our best chance of the half fell to defender Jarrod Brazzale. Another wicked corner from James Skeffington was met by JB who’s header couldn’t find the target. 0-0 at half time and the boys were in for a big 2nd half.

Not long into the 2nd half, Alhassan Toure’s great switch of play was met by Skeffington who’s cross found striker Pete Mercurio. His spectacular effort was very well saved by the United gloveman. Just 2mins later, United were on the front foot and a free kick just outside the box was saved by the flying Munro and the crossbar! United kept pressing and with 20mins to go, a piercing thru ball had the United striker beat Brazzale and on goal with an advancing Munro. Munro retreated as Brazzale’s pressure made the striker shoot. A great save by Munro was deflected back to the striker whose goal bound effort was cleared off the line by Ambes Sium! Some brilliant work by all 3 lads to not give away a penalty and keep the scores at 0-0.

On the stroke of 82mins, a Croydon corner was flicked on by sub Papapetros and met by the head of star winger James Skeffington who put it in the back of the net! 1-0 Croydon with 8mins plus stoppage to go! Nervous moments for the Kings and their fans who were praying for the win! Shortly after, in the 88th min, some fantastic midfield work and link up play between the Caraccia and the fast improving Mercurio, led to skipper Lukasz Klimek blasting home from 22 yards out! A scorching strike that cleaned the cobwebs out of the corner of the net… 2-0 Croydon and the 3 points were in the bag!

A brilliant performance from all the boys. All the boys ran hard, tackled with intent & conviction and made the most of their chances. A vastly improved side from last week and it looks as though Mark Brazzale has found his balanced mix of players.

On Saturday at The Parks, Adam Vizzari;s under 18′s were unlucky with a 2-2 draw, with a penalty to the opposition with just minutes to go. Still, a point is a point! On Sunday, the reserves prevailed in a cracking game 4-3! The boys were down 3-2 with just 7 mins to go… but turned it around with 2 very late goals to ensure the day got off to a great start!

We face the struggling West Adelaide this Saturday at The Parks with a 4:30pm kick off. A perfect chance to pick up another vital 3 points and potentially jump to 7th on the ladder… 1 win outside the top 6! Get down and support your Croydon boys!

U’18′s: 2-2 draw
Reserves: 4-3 win
Seniors: 2-0 win
