Saturday’s hot weather had the Kings play on Sunday at Polonia Reserve in Round 2 action. West Adelaide have had good luck at Polonia Reserve in the past and with a narrow loss to Olympic in round 1, the Hellas were out to spoil the Kings party.

A perfect day greeted both sides… im putting it down to Paul Zajac looking down on us all. A wonderful tribute to a club favourite who sadly passed away last october. This is the first game without that booming voice… but all his family and close friends were there to enjoy a beer and cheer his beloved Kings.

A tight start saw both teams have a few chances between them. Round 1 goal scorer of the week Pete Mercurio came close with another rocket from long range, taking a deflection and going for a corner. Trimboli also had a wonderful double chance deep into extra time, but failed to put the ball in the back of the net. Both sides went into the break at 0-0.

Maio was replaced with Miller at the break, as coach Costanzo looked for fresh legs and creativity in the middle of the park. The home side should have had the lead with a ball that looked to go over the line, not called and it was play on… the Kings were close! On the stroke of 57mins, some brilliant work down the right wing & pin point cross by Skeffington found Trimboli on the back post. The in form striker met it perfectly and tapped it in to the net! 1-0 Croydon and the large crowd rose as 1! A stronger 2nd half from Croydon had us create more chances and press for a 2nd.

Defenders Brazzale, Stokes, Panagaris & Klimek were rock solid at the back- keeping John Hall nice and quiet. Skeffington’s fine day came to an end after being replaced by Patty Carracia and Mercurio subbed for young Alex Demasi. Substitute Carracia had the best chance if the 2nd half, and should have been converted- but wasnt and the Kings were working hard to hold onto the slender lead. West piled on the pressure late but the defence stood strong and hung on for a huge 1-0 win!

A great start the the season- 2 wins in a row against 2 big clubs… but still lots more work to do! Thus week we travel to The Paddocks in a battle against Para Hills Knights.

Steve Pepper’s U18′s got points on the board with a dominate 3-0 win earlier in the day. A very impressive performance from the young Kings! Unfortunately Adam Vizzari’s reserves side went down 5-2 with only 9 men on the pitch at the end of the game. Not the result Adam was after, especially being 2-1 up at the 50th min mark. Lets hope the lads get themselves together and put on a solid 90 min performance next week!

A big thank you and well done go to committee members Juile, Ang and Maria… putting in the extra work this week behind the bar and canteen- great work guys!

U18′s: 3-0 win
Reserves: 5-2 loss
Seniors: 1-0 win
